Default Can you say 402 HP and 393 ft lbs at the WHEELS?!

Saw the dyno graphs and helped them take his car off the dyno myself...ultimate envy here....

From Mr. Hawaii...Hap Maguire

"s-heads

Well, yesterday was a long day. It was finished off with me giving Dave Jones
a well earned golf lesson at an indoor video feedback golf club I belong to.
It started off at Autosport Werks yesterday afternoon with the Happersized
machine finally finding its way on to their AWD dyno. The subject line at the top
says it all. At the Autosport Werks all-wheel drive dyno we pulled 402.4 hp
at the wheels not corrected for snot on 91 octane pump gas. Torque came to 393
ft lbs.

Conditions were hardly ideal which was just fine with me. Dave was a bit
concerned because the temperature at the time of the run was 84 F. Factoring all
the other weather factors, the desity altitude worked out to about 8500 ft. Did
I mention that the conditions were not ideal?

Thanks for this effort have to go out to of course Dave Jones and all the
guys at ASW. He built this engine and has been responsible for almost all of the
custom fabrication work that goes into making something that hasn't been made
before. More thanks also go out to Mike Pederson who has been on a similar and
often parallel track to mine. We have shared all our trials and failures. A
final thanks to Jim Latour, the owner of Turbo Engineering, TEC, that built my
turbo and provided the Garrett intercooler core.

My turbo is a TA34/T04E 54 trim Garrett hybrid with a 360 degree thrust
bearing. No, its not a ball bearing type and it has a smaller turbine section than
most of the larger turbos. This has caused some challenges mainly in the area
of wastegate float. That's why I run a large double WG spring and use my Apexi
AVC R to hold back the boost pressure. Matched up with this turbo is a
standard RS2 exhaust manifold. The boost curve for all 6 runs were just beautifully
smooth. No sharp angles and really reaffirmed for Dave just how nice the Apexi
performs.

Well, what happened on the dyno? The first run was setup with the Apexi on
low boost or 24 psi. The car pulled 382hp with some very interesting fuel issues
exposed. The mixture curve had us going rich between 3500 and 5000 rpm and
right on from there to red line. A couple of more runs at high boost or 27 psi
brought on a turbo surge that I really had not experienced with street driving.
The fuel curve gave away the surge gremlin as rich mixture. We swapped in
another ECU with some secret software compliments of Mike Pederson and we ran
391hp on high boost. The mixture was still a little rich passing mid range so we
backed off the fuel pressure and voila, the final run gave us 402.4 with the
mixture still showing some richness in the mid range and right on beyond that.
Is there more power on the table? You betcha. We will be developing the SW to
compensate for the richness issue and we continue to work on the surge
gremlins. The turbo performed flawlessly and the FMIC did a remarkable job keeping
the charge air cool despite the conditions. I did splash the FMIC with water
between runs to alleviate the heat soak off the engine and turbo. Dave reported
intake air temps right at the ambient temp for all runs.

Are there issues with driving this car on the street? Yes, a couple. When I
shift the bypass valve trumpets like a WRC rally car. The Honda crowd goes wild
when they hear it. With the turbo under load climbing an incline and backing
off rapidly on the throttle there is a surge that occurs. Beyond that it
drives like a normal s-car with a little more oomph. Is it fun? Oh yeah. That's all
for now but stay tuned for more.

Hap has given me great guidance as I have been building up my car. He is always on the cutting edge on pushing his car with innovative ideas and mods. As far as I know I havent heard of too many 500+ HP UrS4's in the States...and I dont think he is done yet...still running the RS2 EM..time for something like:

Running the standard RS2 cam perhaps could squeeze some more out w/ the 7A Cam.

Running one of the 1st Gen. Stromung Exhausts with a Cat and 2.5"-->3" DP (Jeff Postopack releasing Full 3" DP soon)

Larger Throttle body perhaps?

In addition, they are developing a Porsche rear brake kit for the S4 that will run 314x30 rear rotors...NOT bolt on solution...to additionally stop the beast.

I feel lucky to have someone so close that is on the cutting edge here in the States for our UrS development and tuning.
