battery has been disconnected since November, just reconnected it and
radio did not need unlock code and it saved all my station presets.
this is sool, but why?
also when car is locked, radio does not blink its little red light, instead I get a red blinking light by/on the hazard flasher button. could this be why I don't need the code? but how did it save my stations?

11 years is a hella long life, yup. The ones we use are non-rechargable and the mainboard doesn't
have any means of recharging them if they were 
. Although they do have a limited life span, in almost every situation they outlast the life of the computer.
