Default 91' 200 20V- Hesitates badly, cold or warm upon immediate acceleration

Been having this trouble since BEFORE 9/02. Had it in for service in which they checked these items: 1) confirmed hesitation, checked fuses 2) fuel pressure check- power to fuel pump circuit, ok 3)check ignition system/spark 4)compression check, ok 5)checked fuel pump pressure all ok 6)check for vacumm leaks- found 1 at hose for wastegate/ repaired.
Does not matter if the car is cold or warm, or if light or heavy acceleration. Only happens after the intial forward motion after starting the car and going forward. Has 'maybe' happened during a stopped point, to start going again.ie: stop light. Lightening up on the accelerator does not seem to help at all- just seems like it has to cycle through. The Audi service at our local level has a very good reputation, but I can't figure out how something this annoying could still go uncovered!! Any suggestions DEEPLY APPRECIATED!!!

Default 02 Sensor?

I would replace it anyway and see if that is the problem. It will pay for itself in increased gas mileage.

Default Re: 02 Sensor?

That was on our mind next.(myself and husband) I don't mind spending the $$ to go that route- they don't seem to be 'that' expensive anyway, especially if it works!(best price online for a do it yourselfer??) Some tech tips I've read on 02 sensors, ALWAYS list hesitation as a problem. I have Bentley's for this model- is the change out hard? (end wires are a concern?) Our MPG is almost right on from the original window sticker after all these years, despite the trouble. I have also checked archived posts concerning my trouble. Thanks for the info!

Default Has the 02 sensor ever been replaced? Over 50k on it? It should be replaced...

If the engine is like the AAN UrS4 engine the O2 sensor is located on the downpipe after the turbo. It's quite easy to get at and a cinch to replace. Any 3-wire universal will work but the Bosch 13913 is very commonly used. I believe it will require a 22mm wrench and if it's really jammed in there an oxygen sensor socket should get it off.

Default I would get the O2 sensor from Blaufergnugen...

If you burn some oil in the car, or it's running rich from timing/wrong injectors, you'll foul up the O2 sensor eventually, and cause probs that you are describing. If it's old as Iskolnick said, it needs to be replaced anyway. THis should be done every 60k, and an easy way to time it is to do it every time you get your timing belt changed, which should also be every 60k as well.

Default Put the plugs in...

These cars are very picky about plugs.

Also, I just re-read your original post. You don't mention any trouble codes in the ecu. Has this been checked? If your car has a "check engine" light (which it should unless someone removed it) you should be able to "blink out" trouble codes. If the light is missing, a bulb must be inserted before you can read the codes, or you need someone with a VAG-Com setup (www.ross-tech.com). You might also try joining the 200 20v mailing list at audifans.com; this is a very techie group that consists mainly of owners that have serviced their own 200's for years. Spend some time on Scott Mockry's site in my last post.

Another excellent 200 20v site

Default Re: Put the plugs in...

I will add changing out the plugs to my husbands list for this weekend!! Looking back at our intial check for the problem and the follow up there isn't any list of 'codes' being checked. We are also due for the infamous timing belt/water pump maint. this next month. Last check on previous owners amazing records, last change of 02 sensor could not be found.(these records are very detailed) Their trial with this problem from what I could find was back at 93K. We bought the car at 103K. But the problem was not evident what so ever up until last fall. We also have been running 'premium' fuel, not just the step grade. Thanks for the info! I will be sure to update you all as items get attention paid to them!!! Thanks All...

Thanks for the info. Sorry to say that your picture of your "Fleet" did not show up!! Sounds like an interesting selection!! Our sign in came about because of our "String of Pearls" that consist of: 87' 5000 CS Qttr. manual Avant, 91' 200 20V. Sedan, and last but not least a 93' 100CS Qttr. Avant. Our mis-fit is an 89' 200 TQ Avant in Metallic brown, manual tranny. A couple will be on the market soon.
