Anyone know why the app needs location services to”stay connected” not really sure what this means

Inside the App (iOS version at least) there is a map feature that shows you where you parked you car and where you are. That might be what is using it. You can calculate a walking route back to your car, or find nearby chargers, etc. I have not found it to be using the services that much and I do watch apps a bit heavy when I first get them, i have not seen any weird 'it's 2am and my phone location services are being used by my car app' type things, so I have left it on for now.

it will launch the app if your phone is unlocked when you start your car, I've noticed that, not sure if that's done because of that setting as well.

Curious. I’ve noticed/used all those. I Have never turned this in and I haven’t noticed anything not work.

Except of course the phone not using the cars WiFi. Sure wish I could make that happen while using wireless CarPlay. I was sort of hoping it might have to do with that.

In my 2024 Q8 you can connect via the other frequency. I think 5Ghz for Wifi and 2.4Ghz for Carplay. if you pick one it'll say 'used by carplay are you sure', just say no, and then pick the other one. That let me do wifi on the phone and use carplay wirelessly.
