Default Level 2 charging doesn’t start

I just had NEMA 14-50 installed at home a couple of daya ago. When I tested the charger that day for an hour or two everything seemed to be fine and that car fully charged - from 80 to 90%.
Today when I needed to use it for the second time it doesn’t seem it’s working. As soon as I hook up the car the green glowing light comes on when there is a clicking noise coming from under the hood.
Stays like that a couple of mins, and then charger restarts, starting with the white light again.
There’s no issues charging with Level 1 and there is no clicking noise @ level 1.

any suggestion what could the issue be?

Check your target charge setting. Make sure it’s 💯 since you are at 90%? Yes. We all have the clicking noise when level 2 starts charging. The EVSE doesn’t get hot and very silent on level 1 charging.

Check that the charge itself is set to 100%

yes it is. Again it works fine when I plug the charger to 110v. It only doesn’t with 240v.

Well the car is telling you that there is a charging system malfunction, so the first thing I'd do is get the electrician back over to look at the install. Prior to that, just take the car down to the closest Level 2 charger such as found at many Walmarts, etc and plug it in to ensure it charges fine. If it does, you've diagnosed the issue; the home charger.

Does your 240V have a rock solid ground? Not just a screw holding a wire onto the side of the junction box, but a properly installed, proper gauge wire.

Thanks everyone.
Yes. it looks like it's the outlet issue. I drove to another outlet where car was charging with absolutely no issues.
Contacted the my electrician and he'll come over to check it out.
@A4 Phil not sure about the ground and I'll have him double check it.
What else could be?
Any suggestion on where I can find some documentation about the requirements for level 2 chargers?

Almost certainly the screws in the outlet holding the wires are not secure or have loosened when heated (that's why it worked the first time and not the second). If you're comfortable doing so, you can turn off the breaker for this outlet, pull the cover and the socket out of the receptacle and check tightness of the screws retaining the wires, they actually have to be torqued to be correct. Your Electrician probably skipped torquing them and simply screwed them down by hand. Heat makes then loosen if not torqued properly. Then put the outlet back in and turn on the breaker. If you don't know how to do this though, leave it to your electrician. You don't want to be working on a hot socket at this level.

You could also have a bad outlet. Like most things, there are cheap ones and good ones. Hubbell makes one of the best ones. If he has to replace it, ask for that brand even if you have to pay him another $ 50 or so for the part.
