Default Yakima Railgrab towers fit?

I just got my Yakima rack system in, and I cannot get the Railgrab towers to fit on the factory side rails. The rails are tapered on the inside, and the Railgrab system has a vertical edge, so the claw foot of the tower doesn't grab the bottom of the rail well.

A call to Yakima's customer support didn't help much either, but they say this is the suggested tower for the Allroad. Does anyone know if this system will work on the Allroad, or should I return it and order a Thule?

ive had yakimas before and decided to go with thule for my new allroad after picking up both yakima and thules 2010 master catalogs. thules attachments are far more advanced. So i picked up the railgrab towers a few weeks ago and they grab the rails excellent.
Glad I decided to go thule because I would have ran into your problem. I almost got the YAKS because i had crossbars from my a4, but decided to put them on my a6 instead. One thing i really like about thule is the bars are square, not round. I think they look alot better.
So yeah, I would return those and get the thules. I paid 150 for all 4 towers and 60 for the 58" crossbars. Goodluck!

you could also make some kind of shim to fit inbetween the tower and the rail if returning the yakimas is out of the question. just a thought...

I currenlty use a older version of the Railgrab. It's called "Lowrider" and it works great. You might be able to find them on eBay or Craiglist.

See attached photos. Hope this helps.

I also have the lowrider system and it works wonderfully. Have a Thule Evolution box and a bike rack on top currently.

My lowriders broke so Yakima sold me a set of grabrails at a discount. They did not fit properly on the AR so had to sell them. Lowriders and Doublecross fit fine.
