Default Who has been spared Tiptronic Woes ?

We always hear about tipronic failures but I was curious how many of you with 2001 - 2004 ar's have had it problem free and what your milage was. or if you replaced the original Torque converter and have had no problems and mileage since replacement ?

Was the torque converter issue unique to allroads or was it across the board ?

Regards,

Dennis

2003 2.7T tip. Replaced the TC at about 85k. Now at 113,000. Tranny is slipping in reverse, but has been for about 6 months. I just try not to use reverse when I don't need to. Seems to only slip when warmed up.

I had my check engine on for about 40K now, and I know it's the torque Convertor after checking the codes. I spoke to a mechanic about it, and he said if you never have gear problem or if the car changes gear smoothly as if the first day you drove the car when it was new, don't touch it or change it.
I can tell you that I'm at 100k now, and I ignore the engine light. The car runs as smooth as the first day I picked it up at the dealer.

Late 04 and all 4.2s have diffferent TC. There is a service bulletin about the 01-early 04 TCs. Mine "failed" at 32k (no driving issues, just warning light. Tranny failed 7k later.

2001 with 93k miles, no troubles....yet. No trans service, but plan to soon. I don't have much confidence in the AR, but I hope it proves me wrong. I have never driven a car to less than 250k miles.
