Default Wheel Alignment at 35K? $170?

Sent my 2004 allroad in for the scheduled maintenance (under warranty) and they tried to pitch wheel alignment (not under warranty). After quoting $170 for the job, I figured I'd post to see if (a) it's recommended and if so, (b) it's priced right.

My allroad is still factory fresh, no mods on suspension or tires.

Thanks...

Default check your car book...

for my 2003 1 allignment was part of the Audi Paid maint program. This may have changed in 2004.

Where do you live? Local audi dealer (DC area) will do it for <100.

Default It's nice to do once in a while, but that's a high price typical of dealers. Then, some shops

don't like to mess with the fancy air suspension due to extra sensors that their sloppy technicians might break, according to one place I asked. Other shops have no problem with it. Price it, like anything else you might get. Up to $100 is fair, depending upon location and type of shop.

You can also just tell them you usually pay 100 but will consider less than 170 from them.

Interesting - I'm in Silver Spring (not sure where rapcomm is). Which dealer do you prefer?

Default Bigger Headache... any advice?

Just told that my CPO free maintenance contract had expired in Nov 07 (4 years from Nov 03 in service date) and my extended care warranty doesn't kick in until 55K.

I bought the car with low mileage (20K in March 07). Would have to load the miles on to even hit the 35K within warranty period.

I feel like I've been had. Probably should have put this all together when I bought the car, but there was no disclosure that I'd be uncovered for my 35K and 45K scheduled maintenance.

Do I have any recourse with the dealership? Or am I the idiot who should have read the fine print.

I bought the car at Hoffman Audi (in CT) and servicing the car at Bernardi Audi (in MA).

Default Something's wrong:

CPO is not extended care
Audi Assured = free scheduled maintenance program for 4/50. It's based upon either time or miles, since some drive more or less than others, but it times or miles out either way. In your case, it's out for time.

If you bought another program, some further free maintenance program, it should kick in after 4 years and not just after xx miles. One program should lead into the other, and it should not be based upon miles.

CPO is a "warranty" type coverage plan on listed components only, things that break (like alternators or compressors) rather than things one consumes (such as oil or brakes). It adds time and miles and takes over after the 4/50 ends, again seamlessly.

So, what happened to you? What did you buy? If a CPO used car, you have that now for breakage. If another maintenance/service package for after the 4/50, someone's got to be jivin' you since it makes no sense that you would buy a miles based program not knowing what miles you'll hit when. No oil change for 20,000 miles more? Call the selling dealer if you can't decode the error here.

Default My dealer did it for $99.

AFAK the alignment is required after a suspension job, why do they want to do the wheel alignment?
