What's the ride quality like?
Hello all. I'm really interested in an allroad. One of the main reasons is the air suspension. The roads are only getting worse and I'm getting really fed up with crashing over the bumps.
I would like to ask what everyone thinks of their allroad suspension. Does the air suspension give a comfortable ride over bumps, pot holes and speed bumps?
If anyone could compare the ride quality to other cars they have driven it would be much appreciated.

Why not test drive it and feel for yourself? It is softer than regular spring suspension but there are other fctors that could be contributing to a harsh ride, like worn out contro arms.

Just bought a 2004 ar. My previous car was a 2002 BMW 325xi. That car had 156,000 on it. The ar has 52000. The ar is a much heavier car. Lots of body roll. Installing swaybars tomorrow. More comfortable ride. Smoother in every respect but just not as nimble. It's Moran apples to apple comparison but there you go.

I recently test drove a 2010 BMW 328i wagon and it was much smoother over the bumps, but it also felt generally more solid being fairly new.

Thanks for the replies. I would love to test drive, but there aren't many near me at the moment.
I am looking at an 2004 or 2005 car.
Also on my shortlist are the A6 estate (2006 onwards), A8(2004-2005) or a Touareg (2003-2005).
I have a VW Sharan v6 4motion at the moment, but I am after something smoother now.

I think the weight has more to do with the smoothness than the air ride. I don't have much to compare it to since my other cars are much lighter than the allroad (Corrado, GTI, BMW 325Ci). With that being said the allroad is by far the most comfortable to be in and I think the air ride does have some part in that but the weight and seats are the other parts.
If you can you should try to test drive a regular A6 avant of the same vintage and then drive the allroad. That will give you the best comparison.
