Doesn't matter. Wheels on ground or in the air as long as it is level. I run mine up on four ramps and put suspension in level 4 for plenty of room underneath when changing.

But realize that you will be putting the transmission in gear while the wheels are on the ramps. Solidly engage the hand activated parking brake and make certain your assistant applies the foot brake with full lock force so the car does not start to move when he/she cycles the transmission the required multiple times (from Park to Reverse to Neutral to Drive, repeat).

Default changing trans' oil

By the way, if you drain the oil transmition through the draining plug will come out only about 3 liters of oil. And in transmition ther is 9 liters of oil.
