Default Trans going bad?

I have an '02 Allroad 2.7T tiptronic with 190' km (120' miles) on it.

Lately, the trans has been acting a bit scary, and I'm worried I might be looking at a rebuild soon. These are the symptoms:

- Sometimes takes a few extra seconds to engage in drive when car is cold. The indicator in dash switches, but the car slips as if in neutral for a while, and then catches suddenly.

- Possibly some slipping in first gear when cold, not yet sure of this.

- Sometimes appears to hold on to first gear a little when cold.

- At full throttle, the trans lets the engine rev up to 7k RPM before changing up, even when not in sport mode. If using tiptronic to force shift earlier, it takes a while to react.

Does this sound like rebuild-soon behavior? I've heard it's not advisable to do a fluid/filter change at this milage, otherwise I might have tried that.

I would, at the very least, run a VagCom reading and check the level of the fluid before making any decisions.

this sounds 100% like what im having issues with and same km's on it 192 on mine. i have since parked the car and driving my Urs6 for the time being until i get the VagCom (waiting on it still). once i run that i can decide what i want to do with the car.

i do have the luxury of another car so i got lucky. but i would recommend not driving it until at the very least you know what is going with it before you cause more dmg if you can.

just my side of caution on this issue

Cheers

Fluid and filter change at ANY mileage is good.

Filter can only be changed by dropping the pan. So do it.
And suggest that whoever does the work should also drop the valve-body block while they are in there, and clean out all the gook in the nooks and crannies. There could be a lump of smudgey gunk around a solenoid or valve aperture.

It may be beyond the usual fluid/filter change, and some guys try to charge you for a "Transmission overhaul" but this is much simpler. Just cleaning up; not changing o'rings and valves and shafts and gears.

Never believe the bunk about tranny fluid being a lifetime fill.
