Tire sizes
I'm looking at tires and am curious if anyone has tried 235-55-17's??? I know they are wider, but they measure about 1/4" taller as well. Any possible issues? Speedometer might be off, I suppose.
Suggestions or thoughts?

those would be fine
im running 225/60's now with no problems, and will go with a 235/50 next i think
funny thing with the 60's is that the speedomter is exactly right

A 50 series would be a better fit with a 235mm... some allroaders do a 245/50/17....a good deal more money too for the wider sizes.
I run a 255 on the RS6 18" rims sometimes. I think the 2004 owners manual has a pix of an allroad with the C5 RS6 rims on it.
There's several good tire size calculators on the web...though I don't have one in front of me to link to....google it.

Tire size more esthetic or visual effectiveness and doesn't matter what would install but you must remember about correct coding of your new tire’s size.

Tire diameter
Write down diameter of each size under 18inch for reference.
225/45R18 = 659.7mm(18mm lower than rear)
245/45R18 = 677.7mm
225/50R18 = 682.2mm
235/50R18 = 692.2mm
235/45R18 = 668.7mm
SO that 225/50R18 and 235/45R18 is better to fit than 225/45R18
for front of our allroad.
245/45R18 is best matching for rear.
However I changed my allroad front air springs height around
15mm lower than rear by VAG-COM purposely to get more stable handling, so...
I think you can try to wear 225/45R18, and after that you can get more stable driving incidentally.
Please post this result.

Diameter calculation
E.G. 245/45R18
245=width(mm)
45=thickness ratio(%)
18=rim diameter(inch)
1inch = 25.4mm
Tire diameter = Thickness*2 + Rim Diameter
Thickness = 245*0.45 = 110.25mm
Rim Diameter = 18*25.4 = 457.2mm
Therefore
Tire diameter = 110.25*2 + 457.2 = 677.7mm
Thanks.
