Snow tires

Putting WR G2s on my 19" MTM wheels.
I am considering putting 255/40 R19 Nokian Hakka WR G2 100V tires on my 2002 Allroad and using them year round. Most of the time will be spent up in British Columbia but for a few months this winter I'll have to drive the car to the deep south around New Orleans. These seem to be the only WR G2 size that will fit on my 19"x 8/5" wheels and they are not cheap but will handle anything. Any comments?

After more research, I would probably be better off with the 235/35R19 WR G2 size since it would give me more clearance, always an asset when driving in snow, any comments?

But the 255/40R19 WR G2 tire has a load index of 100 versus 90 for the 235/35 size. Looks like the 255/40R19 is a safer tire handling a higher load.
Load Index of 90 = 1323 lbs, Load Index of 100 = 1764 lbs, quite a difference.

235/35R19 = 647.1mm(will much reduce the load clearance)
255/40R19 = 686.6mm
225/55R17 = 679.3mm(standerd for 2.7T)
245/45R18 = 677.7mm(standerd for 4.2)
215/65R16 = 685.9mm(Audi sometimes recommends for ar)
255/40R19 should be just fit, and so many folks are wearing this.

I do use the Nokian WRG2's all year. But we drive the allroad less in the summer because my wife is not working during school summer vacation. During the months of June, July, and August the allroad is probably driven only 1500 miles in total. This last summer we went on a 2700 mile vacation at which time I was wondering if the allroad would be the car of choice. In the end we drove our 6 month old Jetta with it's factory supplied all season Hankook Optima H725A's.
The WRG2's are specified as "All Season Plus" whatever that means. I suspect the idea is that the tires are better in winter than typical all season tires, but will wear faster in summer than the competition.
We're about to start our third winter on the same set...they were installed in November 2008. The tires still have 4/32" of tread remaining (measured and confirmed by the wear indicator numbers "6" and "8" being worn away. I'd guess we put 18K miles on the tires at this point, so they do wear quickly. But they are wearing evenly. I've never rotated the tires.
BTW...I just found a short pointy screw (14/32" long) embedded straight into the tire between the major treads. The screw was more like a tack because the screw threads were gone. I easily pulled it out with my fingernails because the screw head was flush with the surface of the tire tread. This means the point of the screw was 10/32" into the rubber body of the tire. I bet I've got a slow leak.

I ran 255/40/19 Yoko' Advan S.4. through the winter. I had to add 3MM spacers on my 19" x 8.5" 25ET offset wheels to clear the control arm. Braking & cornering in the snow is somewhat compromised by the wide tire but knowing that they worked fine. Clearance for snow was never an issue. You can see it at level three in the pictures I posted below.

Clearance being an issue in snow.

Yes, I run them year-round. I live in the mountains of Colorado. They are great on the allroad. Smooth, quiet, handle well, and are mountain snowflake rated even though they are for year-round use.

I just had them on for the last 35K (just getting ready to replace) great, great tire. Was considering getting them again, but the snow days are getting fewer and far between, so going with a UHP all season this time. Still would recommend best snow all season out there.
