rear hatch won't close, how do I open the paneling...
without damaging it. I have just had my car for less than a week, and already I'm having this problem. The dealer fixed it for me before I left, I'm not sure how they did it, but I'm 6 hours away from them right now. I need some help how to fix the problem: the hatch would not hook up. I could open and close it, but it won't latch down. If I can't complete fix the problem, is there a way I couldn just keep locked. I would also like tips how to pry the paneling open without damaging it. Thank you very much in advance, this forum has been very helpful to newbies like me.

I haven't tried it on the hatch, but in general have found a plastic putty knife to be pretty useful

No need...I think...
Your hatch's lock is in the closed/locked position. And its bouncing off the stricker. Opening the latch by hand is the key..
Hold the hatch release handle or the Key fob.. with the hatch opened. And pull down on the closed latch itself.. this will open it.

it was deleted by allroadguy because he tore his panel in half because he didn't remove screw under
visor. the part you linked to is how i removed the panel, probably a better idea to use a plastic putty knife to remove visor instead of 2 screwdrivers like i did, you can damage visor if you are not careful with screwdrivers.

Yes- make sure the latch hook is open- look at an open side door to see how it ...
should look in open position. In newer cars the key or lever is often just an electronic switch that triggers a selenoid to open the lock, not a true mechanical link like in the old days. You could have a fault in any of these areas. If the catch is closed and pulling down on it while lifting the trunk lever or pushing the button on the B pillar doesn't let it open then I fear a trip to dealer is in order. Good Luck.

it's in the open position...
that's the problem, I would expect it to lock up, by simulating how the striker would move it to closed position by sliding a screw driver through it, but it won't hold. So I'm sure it's not the locked position. I tried to pry open the paneling but was only able to lift the bottom part, I didn't go any further because fearing I would tear it up. Thanks for your comments so far (you guys are great), but still no end to this problem yet. I'm scheduled to bring this to the dealer on Monday (for other issues: leveling control lights would disappear beyond high level 3lights), but I was hoping I could DIY this, and be able to us the car this weekend--without fear of it opening while driving or losing stuff in the parking lot.
