I think my rear end is too noisy.

I think my rear end is too noisy.
You've got your set up, go ahead and have some fun... Got them out of the way? OK, on to business.
I don't know if my rear differential is actually noisier than it should be, but since I've noticed it, I can't stop noticing it. It sounds almost exactly like my compressor is running constantly. However, I have verified that it is not the compressor, because I can hear that running, too, and I can hear it when it stops. The gear noise happens around 35-40 MPH and under light throttle when the gears are not heavily loaded under acceleration or braking. It's definitely gear noise.
My question is, is this normal? It's hard to make a totally silent differential, but this one has a pronounced whine that is audible above the radio at normal volumes. The limited slip in my 300 HP 5.0 Mustang is silent, even after being abused on the track for 12 years. This is a $50K luxury car.
Thoughts?

Have you tried repacking...
the wheel bearings (Yes...I know that one can't re-pack them like the days of old...so do you need new wheel bearings?) Checked the fluid/level? Any accidents involving the rear of car?

Re: I think my rear end is too noisy.
Mine does the same thing at around the same speed. Sort of a low moaning noise. The car has been gone through thoroughly and seems fine. Definitely post if you figure anything out.

mine does the same - at higher speeds though.
i wouldn't worry about it. my allroad has 95k on it and the sound hasn't necessarily changed much over the last 10k besides getting new tires (which increased the sound). i'm still not 100% sure whether it is the diff or a strange exhaust drone. either way. if you find out anything, let me know. j.

Car has ~28,000 miles, new brakes, new tires and no accident history. I suppose it's normal.
Some might just be noisier than others. I'm not worried, just wondering. Heck, if it falls out or explodes, it's still under warranty.
Or maybe I'm just a hypochondriac.
Thanks, guys.
