But since I'm here, maybe I can ask what to do when the door does not latch Sometimes my front passenger door refuses to latch. I tinkered with whatever is accessible in the lock hole but want permanent fix.

Yes, nearly 300,000 miles. Still on original......... turbos, automatic transm. and rear airbag suspension.
pretty faithful about 7- 8,000 mi oil changes. oil is never black, always some shade of brown. full syn
between 240k and 300k it got
alternator
new front airbags and control arms
t belt, w pump, t stat, valve cover and cam gaskets
2ndary air pump rebuild, hoses
new master brake cylinder
aux coolant pump and associated valley pan /intake gaskets
added a hidden trailer hitch as I occasionally tow a 5000 Lb boat short distances.
runs perfect. about the only current issue is
about to change out the front door latches as they act increasingly badly in winter. upstate NY Love the galvanized body!
most fun is in heavy snow, really aggressive snow tires, fully raised suspension..... when I manage to finally exceed the capability of the 4wd and find the car perched up on top of 18" of packed snow....... you just lower the car down, compress the snow, raise it back up and drive away. so cool.
only problem is, the book value of the car is nothing, so if somebody ever hits me I get virtually nothing out of insurance.

224,500mi...Third timing belt went in last month, along with S4 fan and fan clutch (every blade on the original fan was cracked, but dang, the new one is noisy!), seals, cam adjuster pads, etc. Sticker says the next TB is due at 296,000. New windshield and a light detail, and we're back on the road. Barring any required repairs, I'm saving my pennies to rebuild the instrument cluster and have the bumpers repainted.

2.5 TDI
Well, my watch shows only 218.000 KM. In my Allroad 2.5 TDI 2002 Still With air springs With their advantages. The vehicle with us about 3 years. This vehicle slightly spoiled, requires a lot of cuddling, (I'm a pensioner so I am able to) A month after a fully timing. A few problems with the air spring system. A few months after I purchased the vehicle I renewed the torque converter. In the last transmission fluid replacement (After 100.000KM ) the transmission oil thet I spilled was completely clean! (Some small chips on the magnets)
I just bought Another car like this after a minor accident in the front, So I have no parts Problem. Very nice vehicle, nice to drive on air springs with rear dynamic shock absorbers.

Going the other way, my wife's 2002 allroad just rolled to 50K miles. That's an average of only 3333 miles driven per year (including three trips of over 2000 miles each). A real supermarket car. Still looks like it was delivered last week.
As to repairs, timing belt at 8 years, brakes at 6 years due to bad rotors, drive shaft seals, replaced rear Arnott air springs, one battery, suspension boots, MAF sensor, oil pan reseal, new cup holder and a replaced gas tank due to a cracked filler pipe (which Audi paid for way out of warranty). Seems like a lot of stuff for the low mileage but I guess the years take their toll as well.

My 02' just rolled over 220k miles. Running pretty good but is showing it's age with a pesky oil leak and a couple of other minor things. The trans is still shifting well (auto) but on occasion it will do an odd hesitation. We'll see if that evolves into something more serious down the road. If so, then a manual swap is in order.
