Default Engine Bay Shriek

My friend has an "03 Allroad. On cold start up there is a shrieking noise until the motor warms up - - goes away after a few minutes. Had him start it up for me - - he was testing various switches and ended up turning off the a/c and the noise went away immediately. No engine warning lights go off for this problem. Dealer told my friend not to worry about it - - they thought it was a bad "air pump" associated with emissions control. Whatever it is, it sounded pretty bad.
Did a search but found nothing. Could this be something associated with a/c - - apparently it doesn't cool that well. Thanks in advance.

Default Serp belts don't sqeal. Probably the A/C fan bearings...

....BTW, gets worse as the temps get colder. BTDT!

I do think its the drive belt for the A/Compressor or the A/C compressor itself.

Default sounds to me like the dealer is right. when the secondary air injection pump starts to go it will

shreik/howl at startup until the car gets warm.

Default My secondary air pump was replaced yesterday for a noise diagnosis but that did NOT fix the problem.

I just returned from the delaer for a 2nd listen. Of course now the sound will not repeat but it did apprear 6 times at the dealer when I picked up the car Friday. Unfortunately the mechanic had left for the day so I went back today. Mechanic says it'll take about a hour to tilt the front section of the car out to the "engine service position" so that he can inspect closer. My sound was like a loud "whir" that goes away after 4 seconds. Sounds like a engine starter Bendix failing.

I'd say belts.
