Default Dog owners - Questions about using a dog guard or not.

Hi, we've got a German Shepherd puppy, so I wasn't going to use the built in net as she'll just chew it I'm sure at this point, so to keep our dog in the trunk and not jumping over the back seats, here are the two options I believe I have.

1 - Buy a metal dog guard. Can be expensive and hard to find a custom one up here in Canada. If I get one, I don't one a universal fit type that has bars that go from floor to ceiling. The custom ones only sit above the seats usually.

2 - Someone gave me a tip that instead they use one of the loops used for tying down things and attach a short 2 foot leash to the one closest to the trunk door, that way, the dog can't reach past the back seats to jump over them.

Number 2 seems like a pretty clever idea and super cheap alternative to a metal dog guard, so I was wondering if anyone has tried it and if there are any downsides to it?

What do you do?

Default Remember the Lip

Please remember the sinking bit of the back of the trunk where the hook it to hold the latch.
It was mentioned before that some guy had a dog and it got it's paw stuck in it and cut it up really bad.

I'm sorry for this being the worst post ever written, but I'm really tired.

Option 2 sounds best because you can fold down the back seat with out removing extra hardware and also when you open the back the dog won't run away because it still tied in. btw... mine rides up front if the passenger seat is empty, i also slip on a cheap seat cover to protect the leather. if that seat is used i'll fold down the back seats and let him hang out back there.

There's a metal barrier for the Audi avant on Vancouver CL right now ($100 i think).

I just my fabric/OEM netting with everyone's dogs that I take in my AR and they don't chew it.

You could spray the netting with one of those products designed to taste bad to dogs so it won't chew the net.

Just a reminder*
Never forget to turn off the motion sensor on the alarm. The dog _will_ set it off and become terrified (causing bad behavior in the car).

Also place something over the latch on the hatch sill. There is a flippy thing there but one owner had his dog's toe caught causing a nasty cut and amputation. I just use a floor mat I slide over as the dog gets in and out.

Default Never had an issue with the net provided

I have a 110 lbs Malamute and just use the standard net on the car.

I have a 110 lbs swiss mt dog, and i use just the standard net.
But this is just to keep him from entering the backseat.

In my country you actually get a $320 fine if your dog is not secured properly (a mounted and secured cage, or a harness)
-so i´m thinking about having a custom cage made for my Allroad.
