Default Checking in

Hi, gang (and greetings to those who don't remember me, probably most of you).

I'm now 2 cars away from my allroad (sob -- although you're not going to give me much sympathy) and in a different location (although I'll leave my signature alone because Santa Fe was where I had my allroad experience).

I'm checking in because it appears from articles and links here that Audi may just put out a new allroad sometime in the next 18 months or so (in additon to the Q7), and this has got me all in a lather. I still believe, and I repeat it to anyone who listens, that the allroad is the best single, all-purpose car ever made.

I've moved from Santa Fe to Boca Raton, FL (to be on the faculty at Florida Atlantic University, doormat of NCAA Div. I-A) and now have a Honda S2000 as my daily driver. My wife, though, still has her Subaru Forester XT (possibly second place behind the allroad in that category I mentioned), and, when it's ready to be replaced, the new allroad could well be a strong candidate for our trip-with-luggage car.

I'm afraid, though, that I'm still not used to that new signature Audi snout. This may get me flamed, but I gotta say, the front end of the Q7 is really ugly. HPH

Default Good to hear from you Howard!

Hope to see you back again one of these days! Always good to hear from someone in the past...in the early days of the board.

"...the allroad is the best single, all-purpose car ever made..."

So true!! I'm on number two for exactly this reason. After much searching, I ended up coming back. Never was a hardcore fan of my '01 and it's Tip, but my '05 4.2 has changed my tune. I'm not so anxious to take the S4 anymore...

Look forward to seeing you back here on a regular basis.

Default Hey.

How come you got rid of the STi? Is it mandatory to drive a convertible when you live in Florida? I hope you know you're never going to get your gadget to fit on the Honda...

It's nice to hear from you.

Hee hee -- I remember it well - it's attached to the house now.

But with the top down on the S2K, I don't need gadgets to tell me what the weather's doing...

We moved here to Boca just in time to find out what a hurricane is like. For those of you on the Colorado Front Range, well, you've got a pretty fair idea already -- take one of theose big (and big is operative here) windstorms and stretch it out for a long while. Trouble is, down here it doesn't happen so regularly and the trees grow a lot faster.

And, yes, the STi, with its ski rack system, winter wheels & tires, and AWD just didn't seem to be a "Florida car" -- whereas the S did. I bought the S in Santa Fe and we drove it cross-country to get here, a classic road trip, 2200 miles in 3 days, top down the whole time.

But, like I said, for road trips with luggage (and for the future when I'm too much of a geezer to want to do them in a roadster), the allroad v. 2 looks pretty attractive. HPH

Default Tip

Thank you!

I'm betting that the allroad v2 comes only with a Tip, but maybe it'll be that six-speed one. And maybe, if they haven't already in models since 2001, they'll get the throttle response figured out. I never had the problems that some people did, but it wasn't as good as I've gotten used to in cars since. HPH

Default New allroad almost certainly will not be coming to North America

major bummer in my book. AoA does not believe there is a good case for the new allroad as it would come in at a higher price than the Q7.

Default Well, crud.

I guess we'll have to baby our Forester for a long time.

By the way, you guys probably take the great organization of this forum for granted -- I'm talking about its ability to spawn sub-threads with these indented responses.

The forums for my other cars don't do this -- the organization is purely linear.

This is much better. HPH
