Tire makes a huge difference.

ESP only turns off traction control. Does nothing for ABS or braking. You cannot turn off ABS without pulling the fuse.

Even if you disabled the ABS, your car would just slide the same distance with the wheels locked.

What tires and how much tread left?
+100500 Yes, you are right!
Will put some 5 cent on a plate from my side.
Guys, you can try to switch off only traction control and keep ABS/ESP working. You need long press on ABS/ESP button approx 10-15 seconds. You will see symbol of "slip car" on a tachometer. This mode allow to have driving with wheelspins. If you will lowering car in first level and using "S"-mode in automatic transmission, ABS/ESP will working in sport mode and will allow driving with skidding.

If short press on ABS/ESP button you will activate offroad mode. This mode emulating blocking of differentials which more effective during a slow downhill from mount or slow driving out from a sand with wheelspins. But ABS will working all time.

P.S. Sorry for my English! ;-)

Maybe read this first, since that info (and some other "facts" in this whole thread) does NOT apply the same way on a North American C5 Allroad (don't know about Euro models):

A C5 Allroad only has 2 modes of ESP, off or on... and unlike other Audi's of the same era, 2 modes of ABS (AR only).

When you hit the ESP button once (just a click) it will not only disable all traction control (electronic diff lock, throttle intervention, etc...) and stability functions (fishtail, plow, etc..), it will put the ABS brakes into "off-road" mode ("enhanced ABS function") which slightly delays anti-lock just enough to allow a wedge of material (gravel, dirt, heavy slush, etc..) to build up in front of the tires to help braking function, especially on steep downhills offroad...NOT a good thing on pavement.

Offroad brake mode is working any time ESP is shut off and car is under 40mph...normal ABS (but no ESP until you reactivate it) will resume over 40mph for safety/correct function reasons.

If you hold the ESP button in for 10-15 seconds on a N.A. C5 Allroad, the ESP will come back on and kill the button's ability to shut it off, until you restart the car....NO special mode. On your car the ESP is either on or off and the ABS is either normal or offroad mode (ESP off).

P.S. All of the above is covered/explained in detail in your owners manual.

If you don't have an owner's manual, check out eBay.

A car without the it's owners manual is the same as a tool box without a service manual (Bentley or similar)...incomplete and inadequate.

I have the manual and this is exactly how I interpreted the ABS/ESP functions. Thank you for the confirmation.
