Default Best replacement key option?

When I bought the car I had to get a key made (spare) and I recall it was $300+ at the dealer, wife tells me today she lost the key, is there a better option these days? I have the Vag tool, can I program it myself?

WOW! that's a lot. when I bought both of my ar's they only came with one key. A second one only cost about $150 at the dealer.

That was eight years ago, maybe they're cheaper these days, so I hope, I might just have the dealer do it, will call around

A little Google goes a long way...here are a few options (there are more out there):

Amazon.com: 1997-2005 Audi A6 Flip Key Keyless Remote Combo (complete key): Automotive Amazon.com: 1997-2005 Audi A6 Flip Key Keyless Remote Combo (complete key): Automotive

Besides a dealer, many locksmiths are certified to cut and program a blank Audi key fob - should be under $100. I'll let you google that one for your area.

Default Need SKC to program with VCDS

Buy any compatible blank key fob. Find a lock smith that have the machine to cut Audi/VW keys. They may also be able to program it for you...for a whole lot less. You need the car‘s SKC to program it yourself using VCDS, address word 17 (instrument).

The SKC is a 4 digit code normally begins with 0. NOTE: The dealer will not give you the SKC. If you do not already have it, might as well have the dealer or someone who knows how to decode it from the ECM or the instrument cluster do it.

Once you have the code, its just a matter of following the instructions on the screen.
