Audi allroad rough vibration at highway speeds
Hello I am new here and have a 2013 Audi allroad which is ten months old and has 20k KMs on it. In the last couple of weeks it has started to exibit roughness vibration through the steering wheel at highway speeds. It has happened occasionally when acceleration but not often. Doesn't appear to be engine related but drive train I suspect. I have winter alloy rims and tires on it but I don't think its related to the wheels. Its going to the dealer on Wednesday but I thought I'd ask here if anyone else has experienced anything like this. Just started a couple of weeks ago and seems premanent at around 110kph or 75 MPH.

I would guess that one or more wheels are out of balance. Perhaps during the winter a weight or two fell off.
Another thing that may not be related to your problem is the steering issue that some cars developed. Perhaps this could be part of it.

Mine has the same and no wheel issue. Check in curves with some G-force below 60mph. If you feel some rough feeling on the steering wheel despite flat road surface, you might have the front (outer) CV joint failure in a beginning phase. It is cheaper to buy a new good shape e.g. SKF CV joint alone and mount onto the axle.

He has a 2013 Allroad. I doubt CV joints are his problem, but if they are, the dealer will replace with original Audi parts under warranty.

My experience with high speed vibrations on a relatively new car has usually been caused by one of the following in this order (note that Audi quattro can sometimes be finicky with vibrations):
1. Tire/wheel out of balance
2. Bent wheel or damaged tire (pothole or curb; often can't discern by eye)
3. Defective (or unevenly worn) tire (usually out of round or misaligned tread)
4. Defective control arm bushing
5. Other defective or worn suspension component
6. Unbalanced drive shaft (rare but happened once to me on a 4 year old Audi)
Been there done that on all of theabove at one time or another. Start with a Hunter Force Wheel balancer on all four wheels. If a wheel shows hop or can't be force balanced at 20 lbs or less, try switching a good tire to the wheel or have them check the balance of the wheel without a tire mounted. If an out of round wheel is the culprit, find a wheel straightening specialist in your area - about $100-150 to make it like new.
(FYI, if you have a 2013 allroad, there is a dedicated AW Forum for the later model allroad B8. This forum covers the previous, larger C5 chassis).

I am pretty sure its nothing to do with the wheels. I also notice it sometimes under slow acceleration. You will probably think this is a stupid analogy but almost like when you change gears on a bicycle and the chain slips from the cogs, kind of a griding/slipping thing. Well we shall see the dealership has the car now. Thanks everyone.
