I say a hitch w/ install instructions for the ar that would allow a bicycle hitch attachment. I don't need to tow anything with it-just for a bicycle hauler. Thoughts?

Not the best spot, if you get rear ended, you'll have to repair car and replace bikes....
I have a hitch on my A6 avant and greatly dislike the way even the receiver looks. Check my pic poster, car looks tough with a rack system, plus you can expand upon for skis, kayaks, Xmas trees, whatever.

http://www.orsracksdirect.com</a

go with a hitch mount. better mpg, easier loading/ unloading, which matters depending on what type of biking you are doing, not too mention it keeps the bikes out of direct wind and protected from stones. i run a thule t2 with my allroad and wouldnt have it any other way. its the only hitch mount to go with as there is NO frame contact, only wheels. i dont have to worry about the paint on my trek, race iron horse or race felt. as for the comment about the way that receivers look, mine is an audi hidden hitch which, when no in use, is not visible from the outside.

Roof rack can easily hold 3, and the portable hatch carrier can do 3 as well.

judging by the size of the discs, most of what you ride seems to be xc based so a roof rack with qr's on the front is fine. ride anything heavier than that with 20mm fronts and roof rack isnt an option really. hitch is the only way to go. had one thule fork mount crack on me and almost dump my $4000 trek onto the highway at 50mph. will never do a roof rack again. hitch mount or inside.
