Thank you all...
One of the cars we'd trade is a Subaru Forester XT, so the small BMW is interesting; but I like the idea of a wagon better. And the Ovlov is something of a hot rod, but it has no clearance and, after all, is a Ford now.
This hasn't happened yet, and, just maybe, I'll be able to find a leftover 05 allroad. Or maybe a miracle will happen and we'll be able to wait until next spring and a new generation allroad. HPH

Did you drive the 3.0 as well? How did they compare if you did?...
My dealer doesn't get any XTs, says the 3.0 sells better here but I was wondering about the difference after driving the 3. Thanks in advance.

Not totally true...I had issues, that led to the sale of it
5 speed clutch and throttle delay were a pain, frequent jerky starts, and I have been driving manuals for over 20 years....hardest 5 speed I have ever driven, never got used to the feel or throttle lag. And the clutch smelled real bad too...
rear suspension was way to soft, no direct aftermarket for the outback as of yet, I used Legacy coilovers, but the geometry was all off, busted a bunch of end links, went back to stock set up.
Brakes are way too soft, and seriously undersized for that car, but the Legacy GT has much bigger and better brakes...go figure.
climate control was not user friendly
radio has no aux input, and the antenna on the back window was bunk...difficult to connect iPod, or use transmitter...
Overall, the car was OK, but with the milage, and other issues, I sold it. Saving money for the next 2-3 years with a greatly increased commute, got an econo box for now. I will be looking at either an S4 Avant, or a V70R....maybe an A3, but that depends on the kid situation down the line. Also considering the 330xi wagon. There is a new Mazda coming out, the CX7....250hp turbo with all wheel drive, in the mini-ute class. I will also look at those, but doubt quality will be up there.
If I were to do the subaru again, I would have gone LGT wagon, in automatic, not manual. Too bad they don't make an STi wagon...
so, I did have issues, but it was preference and driving style....the car itself was bullet proof, no manufacturer issues, just things I wish were different.
