allroad alternatives?
(I looked back a few pages, but didn't see anything about this; if I missed something, a link to the thread would be appreciated.)
I need some advice, gang, and you're probably the most knowledgeable crowd about this.
There's a possibility that I'll be moving back to Denver this coming fall and, instead of shipping one car and driving the other as we did east-bound last fall, I thought we'd just trade both cars in and drive a new out there. Given the altitude, winter, my skiing habit, our need for load space, well, I think you all know what car would be the best for us.
And, if it comes to a move, my first thing will be to scour all the local (maybe even regional) Audi dealers for leftover allroad 2.7TTs. (I'm certain there won't be any M6 ones, but I had the Tip version before and that's OK.) Maybe I'll get lucky.
But if I don't, what's a good alternative? I'd rather go with a "wagon" rather than an SUV, and what I'm seeing with turbos are the Outback XT and the Volvo V70R. Are there others? Any thoughts? Thanks, HPH

my choice would be the Subie Outback XT..
it's real close in performance numbers to the allroad 2.7, 250-hp 2.5-liter DOHC intercooled, turbocharged boxer engine and 250 lb-ft of torque and is available in with an 5MT.
When it comes to AWD systems, Audi Quattro and Subie are the class leaders.

Drove 4 vehicles yesterday back-to-back...
I had driven the Suburu Outback 3.0 before but wanted to look at the B9 even though I don't really like the way it looks, also drove the Honda Pilot and the Odyssey (my younger daughter thought it was wonderful, we're going to have to have sit down about that
My choice for comparable to the allroad is the Suburu B9 as it handles and rides well, although the back seats are "hard as a stone" from my daughter and I tried them and wouldn't want to sit there either.
Next would be the arghhhh van...the Honda handled really well and has 244 hp and gets great mileage as it has the new variable V6 engine and comfy seats, inside is not that esthetically pleasing but all the bells and whistles
I like the Outback inside better than the others but it drives pretty small in comparison to the allroad IMO
The Pilot drove/rode like an old truck and I come from driving truck-like SUV's (Suburbans and all)so will take it off the list.
Now the problem...can an allroad driver give up quattro for others? Not sure.
