Default Allroad 6 Speed Manual Clunk After Shifting

Hello all, I recently picked up a 2002 Allroad stage 1 with 6-speed manual and coil over conversion. I'm getting a sharp clunk sound/feel after upshifting (maybe downshifting too, but harder to tell) and adding power. Mostly in 4-6 gear. For example, if I shift into 5th and am really smooth easing it into gear there is no clunk, but as soon as I add some throttle I'm getting the clunk. Sounds like middle to rear of car. Was thinking maybe tranny mounts? Is there some type of mount in the rear end that could be going/gone? How could I troubleshoot this problem?

Thanks everyone!

Maybe look at your rear differential bushings. Best way to diagnose is probably to put the car on ramps and see what shape the bushings are in. Note that failed ones may look fine at first glance. The only real way to know would be to replace them and try to recreate the noise. IIRC the bushings/mounts are not that expensive: $30 or so each.

Part 3 & 5 in the diagram

That sounds like a great place to start, thanks for the diagram. I will try to get it up on jacks and see if I can find any play, or maybe just replace them as you suggest. I found another thread that mentions some backlash in the rear end, bad cv joints, and replacing rear diff all together. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

I had similar issue with the 20v quattro. The rubber around the mid drive shaft bearing was torn. You could also test it in reverse gear driving the car left and right wiht variying moment (windows: down)
