Default S5 to Macan

While I've loved my S5 SB and all my prior Audi's, I've made the jump to its sister brand and gone the SUV route. Had been thinking about making the switch to an SUV for a while and was planning to look at the SQ5 Sportback when it came out in 2021, but started looking at Macan's and found one which checked all the boxes for me in terms of looks, options and pricing. While it's the base 2.0T engine (which I hadn't daily driven since my 2009 A4), one test-drive convinced me the 2.0T was perfectly fine for my daily commute and occasional spirited driving, although it was really the handling and comfort of the Macan that sold me. Out of state dealer gave me a great trade-in offer on my S5 and decent discount on the 2020 Macan, so I pulled the trigger.

Have enjoyed being an active member of this forum for many years and will continue to check in. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Congrats on the Porsche! I'm considering going from my S5 coupe to a Macan in the next few years once we have our first kiddo. I'm sure they're very different driving experiences, but how would you compare the two?

Granted I've only had the Macan for a week now and done a little over 300 miles, but I'd say the Macan rides and handles better than the S5, even being an SUV. The seating (14-way power) is much more comfortable than the S5 sport seats and obviously it is much roomier than the S5. The Bose system in the Macan blows away the B&O in the S5. I went with the 2.0T in the Macan and while it is not as powerful or quick as the S5's 3.0T, it is quick enough for a DD and cruises effortlessly and smoothly @ 90+. While I never liked Audi's I-pad style MMI screen, I've come to appreciate the higher position of the screen in the S5 vs the Macan's "PCM" screen which is integrated in the dash and sits lower - it's also been an adjustment going from the rotary-dial MMI **** on my last 4 Audi's to a touch screen in the Macan.

As for the Macan as a family hauler when you have your "first kiddo", I would suggest you look at a larger SUV esp. if you plan to have more than 1 child - the Macan is a small SUV and I would NOT recommend it as a family hauler based on its size. My kids are 20 and 16 and we use my wife's GLE as our primary family hauler when all of us are together - yes, they would fit in the Macan, but my son who's 5' 10" would not be comfortable in the back of the Macan for a long trip, nor is there much storage space behind the second row (I believe the S5 SB actually has more cargo area than the Macan behind the 2nd row).

Very happy with my new ride
