Default Odor in AC system, light sensor issue

Well I have had the S5 for 5 months now and for about a month now have had a musty odor occasionally from the a/c system. ( live in AZ, little or no humidity) It comes and goes. Also had the same issue with my previous A6. Second issue I have had is the day/night sensor for the lights (which also controls the MMI display etc). When i start up in the semi dim garage in the morning the lights come on as they should. However, after backing out into the bright sunlight, it never switches to day mode until i shut the car off and restart in the bright light.
I just took the car into Audi for these issues and not impressed with what they did. Said they changed the pollen filter and deodorized system which I immediately did smell. One day later, the old smell had returned again. On the light sensor issue, they ran diagnostics and found no faults.. Still does the same.
Anyone else seeing these issues?
