That sounds exactly right to me. I've done the same on every new car, and I keep my cars a long time. The only time I've see ANY oil loss was on my ex-wife's Mazda CX-5. And Mazda recommended 5K intervals (because of the lighter weight oil {0W-20 synthetic]. The reason given by Mazda was to achieve a higher corporate mileage rating. So I started using 5W-30 and went to 7500 intervals.

I think we're all pretty much in agreement on OCI if we want to keep our cars for more than a couple of years.
Last questions;
Anyone have the correct part number for the oil filter? It seems to have changed within the last couple of years.
And can you verify capacity: 5.5 quarts?
Recommended oil brand for 0W-20 VW 508 00?

The Audi S5 factory filter 06M 198 405F is made by SOGEFI, part number L1048. You won’t find that brand in the US. Here is a list of equivalents:

Audi (06M-198-405-F)

Purflux L1048

WIX WK10438

FRAM CH12129ECO

HENGST E914HD398

MANN HU7049Z

There's a good thread on the VW508 / 0W-20 oil options here (https://www.audiworld.com/forums/aud...-cars-2988798/), that came out with the B9 S5s as a new oil spec.

I used to use the Mobil 1 ESP X2 (it's what's currently the Audi OEM oil if you get it done at the dealership), but have recently switched to Liqui Moly Top Tec 6200 as of my last oil change, now that I'm out of warranty and get my oil changes done at an Indy mechanic. I'm thinking of getting myself a Mity Vac and alternating doing an interim 5k/6mo oil change myself, and then the next one at the Indy dealer along with routine annual maintenance.

I am old school and have replaced the oil every 5k miles in the three Audis that I have owned. Never had a problem with burning or leaking oil. It’s a cheap expense that gives me peace of mind. Just my two cents.

Mity Vac is a very good tool, you can change your oil and not get a drop on anything including yourself. Quick and easy...and worth it. Takes about 30 minutes...(perfect). I love changing the oil on the S5 with it.

I'm thinking I should do the first change at 5K., and subsequent changes at 10K.
I've also read here about issues with oil burning in most Audi engines (have not had this issue in any other car). Maybe this is a related issue?
Would like to hear from long-time Audi owners regarding both first time oil change, and subsequent intervals.
I did my first oil change at 1k miles then at 5k and every 5k since. An Audi mechanic told me that if you don't like your engine, change your oil every 10k miles.

I made my living owning dry cleaning stores. I always advised people to dry clean their suits more frequently in order to prolong their life. ;-)
