Default Need help identifying part. Coolant leak. B9 rs5.

Found a small leak on the passenger side of the engine. Top of the engine close to the turbo and intake pipe. Don’t really know what’s it called but it seems like there’s a cap that’s leaking.

EDIT: I was able to find the part. Secondary Air Injection Valve.

Not sure why there would be coolant though. Any ideas?

That object in the last picture is just a vacuum solenoid. 2-pin plug with violet and violet/red wires would be the N649 switch valve for mechanical coolant pump. Google search "Audi SSP 655" and look at page "24", vacuum supply system, and page "42", active coolant pump. No idea why you'd see coolant there; it's a vacuum (air) solenoid, nothing liquid about it. Unless coolant is leaking up the line from the pump. The page 42 diagram, notice the red line from the solenoid to the pump. If you disconnect that from the pump, is it filled with coolant?

Really appreciate the fast response. I'll need to check in the morning if it's filled with coolant or not.
What should I expect? I got an error message for low coolant this morning which lead me to investigate. The coolant reservoir was below minimum and then I found the dried coolant below the switch valve and around the "end cap" on the switch valve. Not really sure why there is a coolant "leak."

I have no idea what you should expect, I don't have a 2.9T engine. As to "why is there a coolant leak", I assume something has failed. The coolant pump was a common issue on the prior V6 generation, the EA837.

Also known as a pierberg valve. They're widely available and you should be able to source them relatively cheaply.

This. Coolant leaking from the valve is often, though not always, indicative of a water pump on its way out. There's a long thread over on the other forum regarding coolant leaks. Some folks have 'gotten away with' only replacing the pierberg valve - but it seems that eventually a new water pump is needed. Mine, albeit a 3.0T, was leaking exactly there so I mentioned it to the dealer when I had it in for an AudiCare service. They suggested to replace the water pump, both pierberg valves, and the associated vacuum lines for the reason I described above, at roughly $3000. I ended up DIY'ing it on a Saturday afternoon for just over 1/10th that cost.

Pierburg is a manufacturer of automotive parts. Looks like they are part of Rheinmetall now, same parent as Kolbenschmidt and TRW engine components (not to be confused with TRW suspension/brakes which was sold to ZF). They are often the makers of those electrically switched vacuum solenoids seen on pretty much any Audi engine.

But they make a number of variants of that unit, so best to start with the Audi p/n and then find the Pierburg OEM equivalent and save the coin. Appears it's 037906283C on the DECA 2.9T: https://www.ilcats.ru/audi/?function...52&language=en

Which the MS Motorservice (who is MS Motorservice International GmbH vs Rheinmetall AG, who the f knows, corporate masking and layering without control) online catalog shows as Pierburg 7.22880.01.0 : https://onlineshop.ms-motorservice.c...l=0&hisdir=fwd

Take FCPEuro, you can get the Audi OE solenoid for $178, or a Pierburg aftermarket OEM solenoid for $42: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/aud...lve-037906283c Should one expect an aftermarket unit, even from the OEM, to be the same consistent caliber as the the OE units the OEM supplies to the vehicle manufacturer supply chain? No, but for 1/4 the price, ....

At least for Pierburg I would expect their white label to be equivalent quality as their audi branded parts. The Pierburg branded aftermarket units are essentially the same as the Audit branded units hidden, but hidden behind a pierburg label. I purchased 2 pierburg valves from FCP euro for my 2009 A3 Sportback. One was a 701830130 which is equivalent to 06H145710D and the other was 700470070 which is equivalent to 06F906283F. I've attached a picture but hard to see in pic but much easier to see in person. They shave down the audi logo on the housing and can see audi part number telegraphed under the pierburg label. I am value oriented and in theis case I would choose least expensive option given both the audi specific valve and the pierburg generic valve are and are made by the same company.
