How Do You Like Your Head-Up Display?

Have had it on 5 cars now to date, including one currently. Absolutely can’t stand it, and thankfully, it can be fully turned off. I simply don’t like anything in my field of vision at all.

Was test driving a RS5 today and it had a HUD. I was near my home so I knew the roads and I live right by a road where cars speed all the time (including myself). I was able to see my speed on the HUD and I made sure not to go too fast (43 in a 40).
if it wasn’t for the HUD, I couldn’t see my speed in the virtual cockpit without really trying (granted I didn’t really adjust the seat/steering wheel during the test drive). I think I’ll be looking make sure I have a HUD in my car

Once I had the HUD on my last Q7 for four years I would now not be without. In the UK you now have to have the top model to get it but still the best feature in conjunction with the adaptive cruise control IMHO.

That's also true in the US. Only the Prestige models (top level) have it as a standard feature. When I bought my 2014 A7, HUD was an option only on the Prestige. I don't know when they made it standard.

I might have been lucky that my 2016 Sline Q7 had lots of non standard features but it was before they introduced four levels of spec excluding the SQ7 in the UK which is what we have now over here. When I changed to the 2020 model I waited until the right spec option was available from the factory which took what seemed like an age.

The HUD on my 2019 RS5 shows Oil Temp, Gear, Speed all of which are very useful, as well as a stop watch which is not all that useful for me. Is it possible to swap out the stop watch function with a tach?

I would do hard time in prison for that, but apparently the answer is "no".

No, but many owners are unaware that it does have a shift light in manual mode. While not exactly the same as having a tach, it does provide some of that functionality. The new RS7 hud has a tach but I don't think the facelift RS5 got it.

Seems like HUD S5 in either gauge configuration doesn't have oil temp in it. I think I remember a shift light feature in another car I had when in lap timer mode... I'll have to play with gauges another day.
