Default Button at the bottom of rear view mirror

Anyone know if the button at the bottom of rear view mirror does anything. I have the Navi option so I assume that deletes the compass function, but does it disable auto dim or perform any other function?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick response. Any idea how long I have to hold down the button? I held it for about 3 seconds and nothing happen, not a big deal since I have the navi option but just wondering.

long press for about 4 to 5 seconds and it should do the trick. Worked for me.

If your compass is out of calibration you can drive around a circle @ 6 mph until a new direction is displayed, hopefully when no one is watching!

Until the compass in the mirror appears or disappears!

Speaking of this feature...who uses it and who doesn't? I hate it and turn it off (I find it distracting in my peripheral vision especially at night...and I generally know which direction I'm going in without the use of a compass). However, my wife keeps it on in her Q7 and is not bothered at all by it (she thinks it looks "fancy" lol not so sure about that).

I’ve never turned mine off. It does not bother me in the least, much like the HUD — I see it but unless I’m “looking” at it, I’m just looking through it.

Every time you press it someone somewhere in a BMW gets a check engine light.
