I know this isn't what you want, but does the B9.5 allows variable lighting based on the Drive Select profile?

You can select the ambilight profile drive select. Depending on which drive select profile you have chosen (comfort or dynamic or what else) a different color is displayed.
But I am not sure if this is what you meant by variable?

Actually quite simple. Only the cupholders led doubled and mounted as shown in the pic

Nice mod I like it, the new a3 has this type of light so it looks oem.

For dismantling see here:

Purchase exact the same led as the one used for cupholder. In my case 8W0.947.355.AB.
Connect it to existing cable (3 wires) of cupholders led ...

So you spliced the LED wiring into the the cupholder's LED? It looks like you removed the "shroud" around the LED module?
