Torture tests idea is interesting. Do you some details how they are done? I am dubious but strictly as an unconfirmed opinion. I think most damage is done by owner neglect (water, gas in oil) too clever- by half ECUs which permit continued use and damage under less than design conditions e.g fuel trims and ham headed car mechanics.
Are torture tests tests done with unsuitable oil conditions?

I am hoping major engine defect does not show up in a few years on the 2.9, like it did on the 4.0T.

The 2013-2018 A8/S8/S6/S7/RS7 Audi 4.0T with the turbo supply screen that would clog with turbo fails at 20k-70k miles. The Turbo fail screen TSB did not come till 2017 & the production fix in 2018. TSB# 2044640, Engine difficult to start, turbocharger damaged, V8 4.0TFSI.

APR Plus ECU tune warranty: "At the increased power level of APR Plus, APR recommends changing your vehicle’s engine oil every six months or 5,000 miles, whichever comes first, to ensure the long term integrity of the engine."

[QUOTE=m444;25474166]I am hoping major engine defect does not show up in a few years on the 2.9, like it did on the 4.0T.

Does that turbo issue hold true for the 3.0L in the S5 too?

Thanks

Not known to be an issue with the 3.0T. Check back in 3 or 4 years.

Even with my B8, I was on a 5k mile or six month schedule. I have maintained that with my B9, but I suspect I may be able to stretch it to one year this time because I have only been driving around 200 miles per months since March.

Just had my oil changed at local dealer since hit 5K. Asked what next would cost since this one was free. I was quoted $180. Seriously?

Guess I will be buying one of the extractors and doing this myself.

The cost depends a little on local labor rate, but the oil cost adds up. The 2.9T RS5 engine only takes 8 quarts, but kit below has 9 quarts (1 spare).

Materials ~ $103.00; Oil Change Kit (RS5 B9 2.9L, 2018+) , kit includes 9 quarts (9 x $9.95/qt), oil filter ($9.95): https://www.europaparts.com/oil-change-kit-rs5-b9.html

The guys on the Macan Forums routinely pay $400 and up for an oil change, $180 seems like a deal, but I still would not pay it!

Except I don't own a Macan. Would have been something I considered when buying. Much like the crazy price for tires on my wife's Z4. I knew that before I bought.

Talked to a reputable indie shop and they want $120. That seems more reasonable. Also found a coupon at the dealer about an hour from me for $89.95, but that may be in part because of the slow down from COVID at the moment. Probably won't be that price next time I need an oil change.

I used to do everything myself, in part for savings and in part becuase I enjoyed it. As I have gotten older, I'm starting to prefer to take my cars in for work.
