audi regional reps, i would bet, have more knowledge than you and CR. And a trusted one has expressed mild frustration to me on the number of issues Audi is having--on CURRENT models (plural, in both issues and models).

Guess what- the cars they are seeing, i would bet, are not just the cars driven by forum participants....

To the OP, it sucks that your water pump failed, but you were very lucky it happened right at the dealership so they could fix it. I hope everything works out.

To everyone else, my A5 was trouble-free and my S5 Cab has been trouble-free for 8,200 miles. I have an appointment next week with the dealership to have the plastic part replaced with a metal one to correct the water pump issue, no questions asked. If that is all it takes to enjoy THE best car I've ever owned, no biggie.

I'm sure we could drive the G37 with no maintenance until the wheels fall off, but I would still rather drive the S5, even if she does need a little more TLC. ;-)

.... As a result, CR and TD are far more trustworthy than a vehicle message board.
You cite CR...they rate Audi at the bottom of vehicle reliability, right along with Mercedes and BMW. Three-quarters of the Audi models tested by CR scored below average.

I'm not bull****ting anyone... I own one! And yes my water pump failed too. Along with the backup camera, side assist that only works sometimes and several other little things (rattle in passenger door, speakers that rattle etc.) in the first 15k miles.

If you read my post more carefully, it was only certain trim levels and certain models (all of which are less than 50% of Audis from model year 2005 onward) for certain model years that dragged down Audi in CR.

Sadly, the bad 2005+ Audis (which are less than 50% of the lineup but more than 50% of sales) are more than 50% of the Audi data that CR has. Unfortunately CR chooses not to provide the data of the good 2005 to present Audis (which are more than 50% of the line up but less than 50% of sales-line up and sales are two different things, FWIW) due to being less than 50% of the Audi data that CR has.

Again, more than 50% of Audi models and trim levels for all model years from 2005 to present are typically (but by NO means entirely-enitrely meaning always) problem free (including your 2008, 2009 or 2010 A5 3.2, hwks1). Therefore, again, less than than 50% of Audi models and trim levels for all model years from 2005 to present are typically (but by NO means entirely-enitrely meaning always) problematic.

Who really cares? If you don't think they're reliable or worth the upkeep, don't buy one. There are plenty of choices out there. Makes mine even more rare.
