Price question - ready to order A5 2T

Good luck with your scheme. Here's another idea: if you really want to get creative, you could buy the car from your local dealer and develop some good will so that when you need them in the future for service they treat you like a customer. I know it sounds crazy.

Great point. I had a $600 better price 1,300 kms away from home but it would take me $300+ to fly there and drive it back. I factored in exactly what is said above, and it was very easy to 'eat' the $ difference considering the respect/extra service/perks I presume that I will get at the local dealership.

You should expect to get $1000 over invoice, give or take a hundred. You might be able to get a better deal depending on the local economy and market. Make sure to check out Edmund's True Market Value for a point of reference when you negotiate.

1000 over invoice is a fair deal. There is a lot to be said about buying where you will be doing service. You may need a favor and will have someone there to talk you through all the complicated settings and equipment the car comes with. I am happy that I bought very close to work and had a good experience too. If I need something, I handle it at lunch time or drop it off before work.

I paid $500 over invoice for mine - though purchased it on the last day of the year (12/31). As I understand it, you will not get an Audi at invoice.

I've seen many posts from folks claiming to have paid under invoice for Audis. It is more prevalent in the A4 forum, but I've seen such claims in the A5 forum as well. There haven't been as many of these posts recently, but a few months ago it seemed like paying invoice was overpaying based on the posts.

Interesting - b/c my first offer was $200 under and my dealer said they simply could not do that.

I paid $1000 over invoice, seems to be about the best you'll get. In the DC area I had to search to even find that, including dealers that supposedly had pre-set prices with car buying services (they acted clueless). Maybe I'm bitter, but in my experience I did not see any point in working with the local dealer. They wanted MSRP and didn't offer any discounts on Audi care. They could care less whether they got my business or not because I guess there are too many schmucks in this area willing to pay whatever they ask.

I paid $1,200 over invoice
Ordered a A5 T2 Cabriolet Prestige with Quattro at the end of September, committing to pay $1,200 over invoice and gave a $2,500 deposit. Took delivery 12/23/09 and everything went as promised. Dealer is in Long Beach, CA.
By the way, I find the T2 plenty nimble and am satisfied I did not opt for the 3.2L.
