Hey,

I thought I saw this before, but has anybody noticed a light metallic popping noise after parking your S5? I have a 2010 coupe to be exact and have had the car about 2 months now.

I've heard other cars do that. It's expansion and contraction. Things are moving as they cool.

My B7 S4 with the same 4.2 liter V8 as your S5 makes popping noises as well when cooling down. This is especially the case after the car has been run hard. My '08 M3 also makes noises when cooling down so I think it's normal for the metal in the engine block to make noise when cooling regardless of the car.

Any car I have ever had (read, 'many') has had those kind of expansion/contraction noises. I don't know about Audi, but would be surprised if Audi vehicles have had that engineered out of them.

I don't think it is the engine block that makes the noises, but rather all the shrouding and sheet metal covers, etc under the car. Even the exhaust and cat converter can produce a lot of popping noises.

I've heard the same on my A5. Sometimes sounds like metal, other times plastic contracting/expanding. It is a little louder than other cars I've driven.

did you experience this during idle? i can hear the metal noise when its idle and parked.
