Default Odometer not working

I noticed my digital odometer display has stopped functioning on my 2011 A5. It is still lit up, but it is no longer keeping track of mileage. The speedometer and trip calculator are both functioning fine. Has anyone else ever had an issue with this, or should I just take it to the dealership? I'm just hoping it's not an expensive fix. I just got the car. Please advise and thank you for any help.

Hey - i have the same problem - wouldn't happen to know what the problem is would you. It switches between these two and does not accumulate miles. Everything else works

I don't know for sure but I'm guessing that someone may have altered or attempted to alter the odometer. Some automotive systems have basically 2 odo's- one in the cluster and one in the powertrain control module PCM (or the like). If they don't match, for example someone changes the original dash cluster for another one with lower miles, the PCM would detect the difference and then show the Error. Again, I don't know how Audi/VAG does it.

That didn’t happen in my scenario , the car was already 120,000 , registration records , emissions , insurance etc have recorded atleast 110,000 , service intervals also, no need to modify it.

Always suspect the weakest link. And that is the battery. The car will start fine and most everything appears to work. But a weakening battery starts slowly shutting down non essential accessories. On my S5, the alarm door closing chime and arming went silent as well as another minor accessory. The power management system keeps enough power for starting and other major systems but slowly shuts down others. That was the issue in my case, as when I replaced the weakened battery, everything worked as when new. BTW: the new battery MUST be programmed to be recognized by the battery management system using VAG-COM or OBD-11. Search the forum if DIY.

If you first noticed the ERROR after the amp install, then I would say that could certainly be the culprit. An amp draws a lot of current from your electrical system. These cars have many accessories that use lots of electrical current and adding a major current draw, as an amp, could be problematic on your electrical system and certainly on your battery.

I can’t pinpoint when the problem started. My steering blocks that part of the screen so i rarely look at it . Installed the amp right after i got the car . the amp is disconnected but still seeing the error . Don’t think it’s that . They took the transmission out and put it back in , not sure if they needed to disconnect the battery to do this or not .
