Close assist normally come with electric opening which is a big help after a walk through the supermarket. I love it myself and totally understand why you guys think the opposite. You gotta be in the situation to understand it. Also, door closing assist is an awsome figure. There're countless number of times friends and others not closing the car fully due to Audi's heavy doors. The next thing you know is everytimes since then, they slamed the door really hard!

If the next S5 is eight hundred pounds lighter than the current model, I'll eat my keyboard. It won't be.

If the next s5 is 800 pounds lighter and has the same interior/exterior design/size without a major step down in luxury, I will certainly own one. I will gladly accept more wind buffetting in exchange for the handling (and fuel economy).

Have you ever driven a 3000lb car on the highway? It's not exactly like windsurfing. I seriously doubt you would feel "whipped about" in a 3000 lb (or even a 2500 lb) A5. Heck, even the 2000 lb miata doesn't suffer from serious wind buffeting under normal highway driving. It would be one thing if we were talking about a 3000 lb slab-sided panel van, but this is an aerodynamic car that is pretty well planted to the pavement.

Personally, I would pay an extra $5K if Audi could magically remove 800lbs and change nothing else about the car (obviously impossible, especially with the V8 engine). The difference in feel/responsiveness would actually make me feel safer, not less safe.

Which area do you live in? In New England, the weight of the car count a lot not just against crosswind but also thick snow in winter.

Why not just buy a 2009 or 2010 if you are concerned with the car being too light in 2014? Who knows what will be available then...

That is a ridiculous statement. Fundamentally wrong, and misses the whole point. Getting blown around on the highway has nothing to do with the weight of the car, that's about various things like side profile/coefficient of drag vs tires vs suspension geometry.

Reduced weight means one thing - better performance. 800lbs with the same or better torque and horsepower will mean a very very fast car. Think 0-60 in 4.0 seconds fast.
