Default Modding the in dash monitor

I'm a first time Audi owner, and I just bought a 2011 A5 yesterday.

I saw a YouTube video where a guy had a movie playing on his in dash monitor, can the monitors be modded to display other video sources?

I know that one can get a DAB tuner for UK spec A5/S5 with the proper options. Unfortunately, that's not available in the US (and wouldn't work with our ATSC broadcasts) and the only video source that can be played is through the DVD drive when eqipped with the 3G MMI with Navigation.

There is a VAG-COM mod that will allow you to play videos while in motion, but beyond that, I don't know of any other mods.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping this was something that US owners found some kind of solution to. I would imagine it can be done somehow. I'm just reluctant to pull apart the dash and monitor/cpu in my 3 day old car. LOL!

I'll keep y'all posted once I find the time and get the ***** to look into this further.

Only European modules can play DVDs and even watch TV.

US spec A5/S5 that are equipped with 3G MMI with Navigation can play DVDs, just not TV (since there aren't any NTSC/ATSC tuners made that I know of). The MMI manual even lists DVD playback as a feature. Of course, the car cannot be in motion without a VAGCOM mod (by default, once the car is in motion, the video is killed by the audio will continue to play).

on the 2011s is the nav hard drive based or is it still disc?

if its Disc, the in order to play the dvd, wouldn't you need to take out the nav disc.

just my opinion - you should be paying attention to the road, not watching a movie or tv.

The 3G MMI has hard drive based NAV.

Absolutely agree on that. I don't really have plans to use the DVD drive in my car other than to pop in a disc burned with MP3s or regular CDs.
