Default Looking at 09+ used S5, what are people "actually" paying out there?

Hello all -

Considering re-entering the Audi owner's club with a used S5, but I am finding the used prices shockingly high... I've also run into a few cars that are advertised as CPO on search engines and then come to talk to the dealers and they say they aren't. It's getting a little frustrating.

I'm looking to get a 09+ (preferably 10+ for 3G MMI) Prestige with low-ish miles... If anyone has some guidance on where the prices should fall as compared to what the dealers are asking, I'd appreciate it!

Default price paid in New York

I just bought a cpo 2009 A5 s-line, black on black with 34,400 miles and a 3.2 l 6 speed tiptronic trans from an Audi dealer here in westchester county. I paid 39,500.00. It was for sale for 40,000. The car has every option you can get on the vehicle. They also included the 35,000 mile maintenance on the vehicle which is about or close to 1500.00. Like I said it has every conceivable option the car could have for the 2009 year including the sports differential. The vehicle has a clean car fax, was sold by the dealer in august 2009 and had just one owner. I was also shown all the services the car recieved.I can't wait to get. They do have other A5's coupes and convertibles from 38,900 to what I saw to about 45,00.00. They also had a 2010 S5. The dealer is Mohegan Lake Volkswagen/Audi in Mohegan Lake ,New York. Hope this helps you out.

Default appraisal

I took my 2009 A5 Brilliant Black, Tiptronic, Nav, B&O, side assist, rear view cam, parking sensors and just over 20,000 miles to CarMax for an appraisal to decide whether or not to sell the car to them or trade it in and they offered $35,000. A quick appraisal from a local Audi dealer garnered $35,500. I'm assuming whoever gets the car will list it anywhere between $38,000 - $40,000

I bought a CPO auto S5 back in May. It was in northern NJ. It was in excellent condition and only had 28K miles on it. It has every single option, including a dealer installed radar detector. I paid $49,600 for it, since the dealer refused to budge. At the time, most of the CPO models I saw of similar features and condition were about $52K to $53K. The private party and non-CPO cars were in the upper $40K range.

For the CPO vs used argument, nearly every single Audi owner I've spoken to in person or on forums has recommended CPO. The car is as good as new and still comes with a 2 yr additional factory warranty over the base warranty.

Thanks for the replies everyone...

I'm seeing CPO <10-15k 2010-2011 models selling for 57-59k, and 2009s for low-mid 50s. I find it silly in a sense (maybe someone can shed some light here) that Audi dealers would sell non-CPO used cars (or any high-line marque for that matter). I thought that was the point of buying used from the dealer, but now it seems there's more than meets the eye. The excuse I get is that it's going to cost them so much to do it that the profit margin is gone, or "the car is in too good of shape", or "too new, too low miles" to make CPO "worth it". Am I the only one who thinks there's another reason?

I must say i cry inside reading these prices...

Let me give you an example of the S5 prices here in Norway.

brand new startes at $320 000 usd.
A 2009 for "only" $165 000 usd.

Purchased a loaded 08' S5 CPO (Nav/B&0/tech/side assist/auto) from Audi dealer in Southern Ca at the end of April. Car had 18,600 miles on it, built 4/08 so that still leaves me with 3 years of warranty and piece of mind. But I only paid 44,000 + tax/lic which if you're at 2009 models instead of 2010, then it may be something to consider since the 2 models have similar options. Btw they were asking close to 50k for car so clearly there is room to negotiate.

Happy hunting

The dealer told me that it did have the sports differential. I will find out at 2:00pm on the 27 th when I get it. In doing my research in Automobile and you may be right I do not see it listed in the A5 code and package options.
If it doesn't, Its still a great car at a great price I think! Maybe I can get the next oil change or two for free.

Thanks for the heads up.
