Default Knee Airbags

I find it odd that my A5 has knee airbags but that aside from the actual markings on the lower dash of both footwells, the only other place identifying that the is on the window sticker.
None of the publications or websites I have visited mention them.
Does anyone know if this is just a late production addition?
The 2010 brochure doesn't even list them.

I wasn't aware until mine apparently went bad, triggering the parking break malfunction light and the air bag light. Somehow they are related. Three dealer trips later (to be sure it's what was needed to be replaced) I have a replacement on order from Germany due in who knows how long (told a minimum of 2 weeks, it's been a month so far) The dealer said they are 0 in North America right now, so just hope yours doesn't go bad!

What exactly does the window sticker say?

I had assumed that there were no knee airbags on the North American cars even though the word "airbag" is etched on both lower panels because of the fact that they are not mentioned in any literature.

With the knee airbags, there are eight, correct? Two front, two side, two curtain, and two knee airbags.

The window sticker indicates the car does indeed have knee airbags.
