I totally agree, I just installed a pair on my Q5 and I deliberately chose the Ziza bulbs from ECS Tuning which has only 3 LEDs on each bulb, in an attempt to avoid the overwhelming brightness. Unfortunately those Ziza bulbs also spread a pool of white light on the ground. After I put them on I pulled out for a drive, then I spotted a Lexus IS350 on the road which supposedly has stock LED plate lamps. It also had a pool of white light on the ground behind it, just not as noticeable. I also saw a BMW 3-series sedan with white lamps. That one looked quite nice, the white light only covered the area around the plate. I suspect that his LEDs were mounted upwards though.

It's not really for showing off... I changed to LED bulbs just so that the lighting of the rear of the car matches with the front, but now it seems that those bulbs even overshadowed the stock xenons on my Q5. Only the LED DRLs are of match to them...

quick 2 questions to OP

1. is this a non-permanent solution? i know you used heatshrink, but after this mod, it would be easy to just plug n play the original unit back in?

2. why didnt u just change out the bulb instead of the entire unit? (i believe from the picture it looks like a 6418)

I need to replace the original burned bulb on my Q5, but want to keep the original one. Before disassembling the aasy, I would like to have the spare bulb on hands. Does anyone know the "Wattage" of original bulb. Could not find it on owner's manual. Thank you.
