Default How has your tinting experience been?

As someone who hopes to get his windows tinted, I'm getting a little bit scared off by people describing issues with leaks, etc.

So this is more of a poll than anything else - have you had a bad experience or good experience with tinting your A/S5?

Knowing that people with bad experiences tend to be more vocal, I ask that people with positive experiences please speak up too.

Default Absolutely Horrendous...

Even though the problems are resolved now - I wouldn't do it again. I actually may remove the tint once the weather cools off. On this car, I prefer being able to see the interior from outside the car. It contrasts nicely against the paint.

Anyone with proper skills and common sense can tint your car without problems and as long as you cover the components you'll have nothing to worry about.

Default Here's what I do...

When I need a car tinted, I call the local high-end car dealer (Porsche, Ferrari, etc) and ask who they'd recommend for tinting. Yes, you will pay a bit more, but there's a better chance that it will be done right. I also verify that the company has tinted my model of car before.

It was nearly $300 to tint my S5, but it is perfect.

Default Cover up the electronics in the trunk yourself, and you'll be fine

Mine's fine and dandy. It's a difficult car to tint, but I had 0 problems. And car looks fantastic with tints (mine's Ibis, love the look).

Default I had a few electrical problems after the installation. Window and stero malfunctions..

nothing was ever proven to direclty link the problems to the tinting work.

Default Got mine tinted today..no problem after I emphasized the need to be careful with

the water. Although I think for the 2009 model, Audi has changed the positioning and design of the B&O amp which I think makes it more difficult to damage that component while tinting.

A pic of what I think is a new setup for 2009 is in this thread:

Default Good experience - dealer referred shop

I went to the shop across the street from my dealer, who had good independent reviews. The guy had gone to the dealer's service department to have them show him what to do.

They covered the rear deck with towels and stuffed towels in the driver side trunk cubby where the electronics are. Very simple to do, really.
(Contrary to my original assumption, there are no electronics under the rear deck other than the woofers and sub)

When they tint they spray the window with a pressurized tank and solution pours down the window. Scared me half to death.

No problems at all afterwards.
