Default How Does The RS5 Sport Exhaust Differ From The Stock Exhaust?

Is the RS5 Sport Exhaust just a louder system, or does it have a flapper valve like the R8 that opens at a certain RPM and load condition. I ordered it on my soon to be delivered RS5 without really knowing how it works.

The sports exhaust is definitely valved (like the R8 and RS4), but I believe that the sound is different as well.

Exhaust sound changes immediately when put in Dynamic mode or Custom. Definitely worth it. The downshift really barks as someone described it. The upshifts also roar in the upper RPM's. The exhaust is one of my favorite things about the RS5. You're going to love it.

Spot on. In Dynamic mode with the valvs opened it makes a hugh diff. Milltek and Capristo also makes an aftermarket exhaust that works with the valves too but Im not sure id even change it. Def a must for the price of the option.

I have the regular exhaust for the RS5.

If you put it in Sports mode in ANY drive select combination, you can hear the downshifts (very loud) and the up-shifts in the high RPMs or if you hit the pedal really hard.

So, even if you are in comfort mode, but put it in sports mode (press down in D on your shift-****), the exhaust will be LOUD. One of the valves open on 2 of your 4 pipes. There are actually 2 openings, but inside the 2 openings are a total of 4 pipes.

Now, for the SPORTS exhaust, this is suppose to be LOUDER and more pronounced. And, from what I read, there is a button that you push to activate the louder sound (louder than the regular/stock exhaust).

There is not a separate button. It is activated by using the Dynamic drive select mode.

My mistake.

I have the RS5 stock exhaust for my RS5, so the RS5 stock answers are correct.

No problem. Sounds like they operate in the same manner... just different sounds.
