Default 2010 Audi S5 versus 2010 BMW M3?

I like both cars and price is close. A fully loaded 2010 S5 with most options is MSRP at 63k and the
BMW M3 is 71k.

The thing is that even though the S5 has been out for 2 years, Audi dealers are unwilling to cut deals on the cars even in a bad economy. BMW dealers will gladly knock off a few grand from new M3.

Any tips on what Audi dealers in Los Angeles and Orange County would discount a new S5? If I can get a deal on a new S5 it would be my choice for less money and decent performance.

There's a reason for the lack of discount the S5. Audi has put zero factory support on them. There are fewer S5s on the road and for sale than the M3. Resale value is better on the S5. BMW has so heavily incentivized the M3 that it has really hurt their resale value.

True but the beef I have with Audi dealers is that they want AS MUCH for a
new S5 as a new M3! If I have to pay 65k for a new car, I would get the new BMW M3 or Porsche for same price. If you spec the car out, a new S5 should cost 59k at the most with the key options such as Prestige package and 19 inch sport rims.

Yes- the car is in demand but so is the new M3, GT-R, etc. But I do not see dealers markups for these other hot cars.

Seems like Audi dealers are too greedy and arrogant.

sjenner so buy the M3 or the porsche, no one is forcing you to buy the S5. Since, neither Porsche nor BMW dictate Audi pricing, Audi can charge what they want, it is their car company after all.

Also, There isn't a mark up, I paid Manufacturer for my '09 S5, and it was 65,365. No mark up, that was Manufacturer price. If there was a mark up as there were by some early adopters in '08, you were paying $75K for the car not $65K.

Forget about sticker prices and MSRP and think about what the car is worth to you. If you feel the S5 commands too high a premium, don't get it.

As for your comment about dealers, I would argue that the sale and resale prices are a function of the free market - which includes private sellers and buyers AND dealers - so consider that if you're worried about residual value.

For me the choice may have been easier. I drove both the M3 and the S5 and thought "great" and "awesome!", respectively. They are both great cars. Good luck with your decision.

Oh please. The dealers are being greedy and arrogant? They could just as well saying you're being cheap and whiney.

They can set the ask on the car. If your bid is too low for them then don't buy the car and get something else instead. The price is higher because someone else is willing to pay it; the dealer knows that and they are willing to wait for a bit.

Lots of cheap M3's around, so go drive one like everyone else :-)

Considering your numbers show the M3 as almost 10K more than the S5, I don't think you can consider then as having the same price.

Dude... just get the M3....

One less A5/S5 on the road for us. It's better for resale value for the Audi owners.
