Default Help 5 EXTRA QUARTS OF OIL IN 2012 AUDi A5

Help 5 EXTRA QUARTS OF OIL IN AUDI!!

Ok so long story short, I’m a student that buys cars every now and then and gets them rebuild…

Now I picked up a audi A5 with minor damage to door and had it repaired, at some point a worker told me there was some oil that leaked out so we put a bit extra oil without knowing due to no dipstick…

I drove the car like .5 Miles and saw it smoking, I stopped and didn’t know what to do, I put in 5 quart since i saw oil sign and though there was none left….

I was told i was fine and drive back, I moved a couple feet and right before ethe engine felt like it was going to seize i turned it off….. ( It was smoking white smoke when this happened? - it was on for like 10 sec but had total of approx 10QT of oil…

Now it went to a body shop and they drained all oil and put proper amount of oil and changed filter then started. Car ran of like 30 sec and then it had some weird sound so I quickly turned it off………

Now the guy is claiming since there is oil possibly in cylinders its burning that and thats why there was a TON OF SMOKE…..

So whats the best thing to do next? Of course everyone will say to go to Audi but I just need advice what exactly to have done on car.. DO i have someone open top of engine and clean it out a bit or turn it on again and let it burn?

Thanks so much for any help !

My fear is that your engine suffered from hydro locking due to the excessive oil in the cylinders. Your engine tried to compress the oil, which is not possible, and possibly now has bent rods, damaged bearings and blown head gasket. I would simply explain what happened to Audi service and be prepared for an amazingly expensive bill.

There is an way to measure the oil level through the MMI, if you genuinely added an extra 5 quarts and the car was only low a quart, you may have caused a significant amount of damage to your engine..

Drain the oil, remove the head, clear excess oil out of cylinders, re-install head, replace contaminated components (fouled plugs, PCV etc) damaged by the overfill and hope it will run.

If your motor hydro locked... then you'll likely be replacing a motor.

$15.00 and get a dip stick! I would never own a car that I could not install one. In the Audi 10 seconds and your done.

I would turn it on and let it burn. If you damaged the engine, it will need rebuilding/replacement anyways. If the smoke show doesn't ease up, have the cylinder compression checked before any tear down.

One post and done? He may have gone into shock at the repair cost. Surprising that he says he buys cars to "rebuild" and threw in 5 quarts of oil without checking the current level first. Ouch.

In case if you (OP) are still reading and were not just bull s***ing; next time, don't take your car to a body shop for an oil change or to diagnose a potential catastrophic engine failure. And, write this of as a learning experience, being student and all.
