Default Launch Control on RS5

The Manual says to press the stability control button to get to sport mode.

Some youtube videos/forum posts mention to hold it until it turns off.

Is the launch control with the StabilityControl off more aggressive?

As far as I can tell, launch control will not activate unless traction control / stability control is off.

That's correct, ESP mode off and you have to have the gear shift in Sport mode.

You then have one foot on the foot brake and rev it up to 2500 rpm and then let go of the brake. Make sure you have plenty of clear road infront of you, the car is pretty hard to stop when it gets going.

Apparently though it's not good for your transmission and it tends to make it increase in temperature. If the transmission gets too hot, you won't be able to use launch control until it cools down. I would only use it if you really had to.

I understand the part of putting the transmission into S.

But the confusing part is about the stability control. The manual says to press it to go to Sport Mode not to hold it to switch it off. also I believe the ECU will hold the rev at 5K RPM before launching.

I will post a picture from the manual later today.

The best part of the manual instructions for launch control is to "...make sure the front wheels are pointed straight ahead...".

Yes, stability control in sport mode and transmission in S is all you need. You don't need to turn it off completely. If you want you can turn it off completely, but it doesn't launch any different. If you see the following in the DIS, you are good to go. Push the brake pedal hard, foot on accelerator and wait till rpm stabilizes at 5k and then let go of the brake and enjoy the ride.

I've heard that it shouldn't be able to go above 3,000 RPM as that's the limit. However, to get good traction lots of people say to only take it upto 2,500 RPM. Be interested to hear how you got on

That's for the S4/5 or any other car with forced induction. The RS5 with its naturally aspirated engine takes off screaming at 5000 rpm if you launch it. To get the best acceleration you need max torque and in this engine that's above 4000 rpm. 5000 gives enough play to not fall below max torque when the clutch engages and the rpm drop until the car gets out of the hole.
