Default Electric Power Steering

Hello,
my 2014 Audi A5 has lost complete power to the electric power steering module.
after further inspection and removing the module, it turned out the Module was fried.
i bought a used one from an A6 in the same year bracket.
after plugging it in the car started steering smoothly again.
a few minutes later the Red steering wheel light came on and it was back to being rough.
i thought maybe i had to erase the code or reprogram it so i took it to someone who is able to do that.

the mechanic told me that there is no power being pushed the module so he was not able to reprogram it nor erase the code.

i thought it was strange because i also checked the connection that go from the car to the module and it had electricity.

if someone can help me out with this situation please do.

The reason the original was fried was due to Water Damage, after driving trough a fairly deep puddle in Sou

There was a warranty extension for the J500 because it was so unreliable in wet scenarios. Did you run through that material to see if you would have been covered?
Typically, you have to replace the J500 with the same p/n unit, is my understanding. A C7 J500 would be different from a B8.5 J500 because the C7 unit uses Flexray on pins 3 and 5 while the B8.5 unit uses CAN bus on pins 4 and 6. Both have 12v for the electronics on pin 2.

I do remember that warranty extension. It was for 10yrs and up to 125k miles. So my '13 S5 & '13 RS5 are both out of extension. If you call Audi right away your '14 might just make it. I think I'd re-install the old module as an A6 module installed might be enough for Audi to void the warranty.

I called the dealership but they said it has already expired.

So do you think I should get an A5 J500
i thought it would work with a C7.

is there another module I should look for in the car.

what would you guys recommend me doing beside going to the dealer because literally just expired a couple months ago

You should try to get a J500 of the same p/n as on the one you took off the rack. That includes the revision letter(s) too. Because there's also standard vs dynamic steering racks. The B8.5 A4 and B8.5 A5 use the same racks, so you'll find the relevant part from either of those. Should say 8K0 909 144 ... on the unit. Not 8R... (Q5) or 4G... (C7) or whatever else. Yours was a rev F, so best to look for that. The rack p/n as on your label was 8K1 423 055 AJ, so that's the standard rack used in the A4/A5 for the first half of MY14 production. The revision letter chain for the LHD QZ7 racks of 8K1 423 055 was S > AC > AJ > AS > BK > BR > CA > AN > CG. No idea how they went back to AN there for a bit. So they were constantly updating the factory software load, it would appear. Don't know what the matching 8K0 909 144 xx is for each of those rack revisions.
