Default Upgrade to Android Auto?

We already know these models have the newest MMI, but given the recent announcement that Android Auto is coming to "some" models in 2015 (it would make sense the A3/S3 would be included), I'm wondering if Audi would give us the option to upgrade if we took delivery of a car this fall as opposed to waiting until next year. As much as I want an S3 I hate to miss something like this by a few months.

AFAIK there has never been an "upgrade" (other that Navigation map disks) available for any component of an A3 from Audi. Audi's position has been "you're stuck with what you bought".

Upgrades have typically been DIY projects. The Android or Apple interfaces may be provided by a different MMI headunit so it may be possible to swap it out.

I contacted the PR rep for Audi of America and he said they didn't have anything to report at this time as far as upgrading already purchased 2015 A3s.

AFAIK, this is not a concern.

I simply paired my Galaxy S4 to my A3 and they easily communicate with each other now. I can read all my contacts, text messages on my phone through the MMI now, make calls, playback my audio books through my smartphone. The MMI even lets me know why my Galaxy S4 battery is low and to plug it up to the USB to charge it.

Gamegenie,
you mean to say that you have a non-navi MMI and paired it to your "Samsung Galaxy S4" and your MMI is able to give you text message notifications ?...

I have the same set up (phone and mmi); located in Canada and we do not have the SMS notification function; this really bugs the h out of me.

Even though I use an Android phone. This isn't anything that I would want. It reminds me of Apple products being forced down our throats.

Somewhat disappointing news as I'm sure there won't be an upgrade but:

[qoute]I emailed Audi's press website contact about Android Auto and this is the response he gave me:

Hi,

Android Auto will first appear in a model due in early 2016 in the USA. We haven't ID'd that vehicle yet. It will arrive in late 2015 in Europe.[/qoute]
